Brief
Design a MVP to help patients skip long pharmacy lines by completing formalities on a progressive-web-app
Impact
Pain-points that encourage shoppers to move their prescriptions to another pharmacy and promoting ease of use for prescription pick-up were top targets.
My team quickly discovered relevant sections of the prescription checkout process and designed a web-app providing a native-like experience which went live and stop-gapped until the Meijer App could include these features.
Motivations
The in-store pharmacy is key to Meijer's growth strategy as the average basket size for pharmacy shoppers is significantly greater than non-pharmacy shoppers and the average number of annual visits by shoppers with active prescriptions is significantly greater than those without.
The Pharmacy team was looking for an interim solution that would be address customer needs, cost effective and rapidly deployable giving them opportunity to test out use cases.
About the project
Meijer undertook this project to convert non-prescription shoppers or lapsed pharmacy shoppers into current pharmacy shoppers.
An internal marketing exercise identified the need to service pharmacy customer wants for having prescriptions "ready when I want it" with a rapid check-out mechanism. The Meijer app in 2017 did not have these features and the app team could not accommodate this ask within the next several release cycles.

Design Thinking & Technical Discovery
An initial brainstorm helped to coalesce stakeholders around the idea of having the MVP be based upon a progressive web app, accessed by a link sent to the patient via secure text message.

Design Thinking and Technical Discovery
A follow-up workshop was conducted with Meijer technology teams to understand the requirements and limitations of secure text messaging system, ways to authenticate users that would be compliant with HIPAA and detail out use cases that the MVP would support.

Design Artifacts
We created wireframes to capture the main use cases. This example shows how a user can authenticate by entering their DOB, select the prescriptions and pay for them and see a pick-up barcode (to be scanned instore)
